Ici/Now 2022

303 Session

Created during a residency at Studio 303 in Montréal in August 2022.

This first residency was 10 hours of research and exploration for Ici/Now 202x.

Being awarded time to work on this project was a total surprise. It was a much needed push. When you work alone, whether you can admit it or not, there is a small part of you that wants to get some sort of confirmation you are on the right track, that there is value in the work you are doing.

During these 10 hours, there was the usual rollercoaster ride: you begin with the excitement, the surge of creativity, inspiration and energy; then you feel the false-sense of security and soon after the self-doubt, the feeling of the work not being as good as we thought it would be, the exhaustion; you then get a grip and convince yourself you wouldn’t have been awarded this residency and finally you finish with a sense of accomplishment. Blood, sweat and tears, they say. Indeed.

It was an important moment for me to evaluate my work. It was not about getting the recognition; rather, it was about doing what I love with what I have. But getting a second opinion is very valuable.

That is what Studio 303 provided me.

Thank you to Kim Sanh and Dom for their kind support and guidance.
