Falling

Creation Station Episode 21 - About Falling

Keep this in mind while looking over my work.

I wanted to create a collage of my creative experiences. It was meant as a journal. It’s not about showing off or making big productions. There is never much editing. And it shows. It’s not perfect and it wasn’t meant to be.

I wanted to show a moment in time as it was. Because it forces us all to re-examine ourselves and what is important. It brings us back to that present moment that we are all running after, when in fact, it just is.

The movement projects are improvised. One take. No do-over. No editing. It’s an exercise in tuning out all the rest and focusing at the task at hand: moving. I want to capture the off-guard moments, you know, those times where you are completely immersed in what you are doing. You can tell when my attention drops or when I’m thinking too much about what I’m doing. Surrendering to the present moment is much more difficult than we think.

The writing has emerged from notes jotted down at one time or another, ideas that have been floating in my head for a long time (I mean, a LONG time). I like to write, but don’t really consider myself a writer. It’s just the way some moments want to be expressed.

The photos are just things I noticed that I find interesting. Very basic. Yes, shot on a cell phone. No big setup, no retouching. Okay, I use filters but that’s about it. To me, they bring out a memory, a scent, a place in time. What do they evoke in you?

I’m not sure if this collage will inspire others to do the same. Like Hesse says of trees, they do not know how many children they’ve spawned, meaning that they do not know just how much they’ve impacted the life of others around them. Maybe no one, maybe a few. It just is.

So, likely, I just am.
